Word for Word: Selfish
I’m in a writers’ group that meets on Zoom, though before the pandemic we met in person. Every week, we do a writing prompt: someone gives a page number, and our organizer picks a word from a huge dictionary. We write for five minutes. In this example, the word is: selfish.

The dragon Flagstone’s hoard of gold was far greater than that of his neighboring dragons. Because he was selfish about his gold, he didn’t want any of his friends to notice the immensity of his collection and therefore invited them inside his cave for tea. Unlike all the other dragons, he kept a gold gate at his cave entrance and padlocked it before leaving home or going to bed.
