Word for Word: Choke
I’m in a writers’ group that meets on Zoom, though before the pandemic we met in person. Every week, we do a writing prompt: someone gives a page number, and our organizer picks a word from a huge dictionary. We write for five minutes. In this example, the word is: Choke.
The cop dragged the black teenager out of the convenience store while falsely accusing her of shoplifting. She keeps denying it. While a witness stands recording a video on a phone, the cop chokes the teenager.
At dinner, Samantha thought she saw movement near the door. She peered in that direction and saw an individual wearing Cavalier costume. As she observed the Cavalier fade before her, she realized it was a ghost. She choked on a Brussel sprout.
