Using Medium Like Twitter

Change of plans….

My kind of twitter, though I didn’t want it in my house

I created my Twitter account in 2008 because I was studying publishing in grad school and an instructor recommended it. I primarily follow accounts that have to do with writing and publishing. Since I’m a fiction writer, I’m there to promote my writing. Admittedly, in recent years — what with rising fascism — I have ended up following activists accounts, too.

Since Elon Musk bought Twitter to spread hate (because of course when he says “free speech” he actually means “hate speech”), I should probably become accustomed to using Medium more and Twitter less.

When I concluded this, my first thought was: this means I’ll be posting more on Medium, although my writing is more fiction than nonfiction. Maybe I’ll post short stuff more frequently.

But… that’s not really how I use Twitter. I share other people’s posts frequently. I’m not sure that’s a Medium option, but that’s okay. I get the most attention when I comment on someone else’s post, and that’s something you can do on Medium.

My Twitter account (@sewiget) receives little attention. If I don’t wish to be ignored on Twitter, I use certain hashtags — especially #WritingCommunity — and comment on posts by more popular accounts/writers.
