Sick of Social Media

This morning I realized that Castbox, my podcast app, is not only a podcast app but also… social media.

Last week I decided I hate social media. It was a thought that popped into my head, perhaps after I briefly logged into Twitter and blocked countless trolls and bots. Since November, that’s a typical Twitter experience.

Nowadays even traditionally published authors — let alone self-published authors — must use social media to promote their work. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be on social media.

Maybe an incident on Tribel — an alternative to Facebook — inspired my negative thought about social media. I made a mental note that I really should stop posting publicly on Tribel, which isn’t the haven I expected. Well, okay, the reason the makers of Tribel pat themselves on the back is because they don’t stalk you with online ads the way Google and Facebook do. That is creepy.

But back to Castbox. Sometimes on Castbox, I post a comment on specific episodes. Sometimes I’m venting, and other times I’m providing more information on the topic. I assumed that the only people who would see these comments are the podcasters themselves, if them.

Nope. The general public can see these comments.

Do I not understand how the internet has been working for about a decade?!? I’m kicking myself for publicly…
