Misogynists and Transphobes on Medium
Dear Medium,
Are you trying to be Twit or Nazibook?
You’ve been sending me notifications for essays that are guaranteed to infuriate me. Twit and Nazibook deliberately create conflict as a bizarre way to keep people on these toxic social media platforms for as long as possible. When they pull that shit on me, I end up blocking trolls and bots.
Admittedly, I shouldn’t spend that much time blocking trolls and bots, so… it works on me to some extent. And of course it’s impossible to block all fascists, white supremacists, misogynists, and fake accounts on social media. I’m pretty sure they’re the majority of accounts on both Twit and Nazibook nowadays.
Misogynists and transphobes are not people whose essays I wish to read. So don’t send me notifications about them, Medium. Unless you want me to block more accounts.
Sure, maybe the posts have tags I use, like “feminism,” but that doesn’t mean they’re feminist posts. That is, however, probably why Medium is giving me notifications for such essays. It’s an algorithm, not a vindictive human.
The latest of the Medium essays was a blatantly TERF-fy post absurdly claiming that J. K. Voldemort is the victim of a witch hunt. No, TERFs aren’t victims bullied by trans people or trans allies. TERFs are not real…
