Meta’s Bigotry

On Bluesky, I stumbled upon an author named Novae Caelum who posted about how Meta is suppressing their freedom of speech — namely their promotion of their queer books.

The author just deleted all mention of queerness & trans/nonbinary characters on their website because… Meta.

The author shared the disgusting letter Meta sent them. It stated their new terms beginning in January 2025. They’ll restrict accounts that mention gender and orientations, certain races or ethnicities (for instance, don’t mention that your characters are Black!), no mention of unions, no mention of immigrants, no mention of specific religions, etc. The reason it’s normal and helpful to mention these issues when promoting your writing is because the people for whom these books resonate will be drawn to them.

Meta isn’t only saying the quiet part out loud. It’s screaming the quiet part through a bull horn. It’s yelling the quiet part on a radio station or podcast. It’s flaunting even more than ever the fact that it’s run by fascist bigots. Meta is flaunting its racism, xenophobia, Christofascism, anti-LGBTQIA+ stance, and anti-worker stance. Meta is eagerly capitulating to the oncoming fascist regime that it helped cause because of its deliberate spreading of misinformation.
