Daffodil the Dragon, Anti-Fascist Avenger (4)

I wrote this Part 4 after I told someone in my writer’s group about my dragon vignettes & they wanted me to incorporate my story of Tibetans staring in astonishment because of my left-handedness.

After a long and tiring day burning fascists to a crisp in Washington, D.C., Daffodil the dragon decides she needs a vacation. She feels unclean after all those bad vibes. She flies and flies, far from American. She enjoys the wind in her face.

Daffodil finds herself drifting over Lhasa, the capital of Tibet.

It’s the month of March but still feels like winter, which is okay because Daffodil has her rage to keep her warm. Her rage and her inner fire breath. She side-eyes Chinese soldiers driving an ugly green military jeep. They side-eye her, too, and one of them points at her and yells. She has a great wingspan and figures she could easily fly out of their reach.

Daffodil pauses and thinks: There is another option. This is an occupied country. She just came here to take a break from her work and relax, probably meditate in a cave. But now she shrugs and turns back around to the quickly receding vehicle. She takes a deep breath in… and opens her mouth during a deep breath out. A stream of orange flames emits from her open craw and sets the jeep on fire. Listening to screams, she turns away and…
