Antisemitism and Conspiracy Theories… and Fatphobia and Pretty Privilege… Day

It started with someone posting in the Two Girls, One Ghost Podcast Facebook group. This person gushed about wanting an episode about Illuminati conspiracy theories. My mind immediately screamed: “ANTISEMITISM!”

When numerous members of the Facebook group pointed out that’s racist, colonialism, antisemitic, and anti-LGBTQIA+, I felt glad so many people spoke up. I felt less glad that others in the group used the laughing emoji, weaponizing their privileges. I blocked everyone who attacked/laughed at the not-bigots. Whenever I see inappropriate use of the laughing emoji on Nazibook, the people who use it that way seem like sociopaths and psychopaths. Apparently if you have a shortage of empathy, bigotry is hilarious as long as it isn’t directed at you.

(Hmm, I’m beginning to think the Two Girls, One Ghost fandom has a white supremacy problem, even though one of the podcasters is part Asian. Maybe it’s more a “willfully ignorant cishet white gentiles” problem.)

The fact that so many members of the group spoke up against the bigotry of the Illuminati conspiracy theories is the only reason I didn’t immediately drop out of the group and two other Two Girls, One Ghost Facebook groups (the book group and the coven — it’s a popular podcast). I’m tempted to do so and…
