50th Anniversary of Roe
--
January 22, 2023 would be the fiftieth anniversary of Roe v. Wade… if the Christofascists of the not-so-supreme court hadn’t taken away the Constitutional right to abortion.
Of course, Roe was never enough. The ERA (Equal Rights Amendment) should have passed by now if only the government weren’t apathetic about the rights of people who aren’t cishet white males. (And yes, the ERA would be beneficial to transgender, intersex, and nonbinary people, not only cisgender women.) I know — at least as important as laws is living in a compassionate, empathic society that actually gives a fuck about basic human rights — including women’s rights. This country isn’t even willing to admit that people other than cishet white male Xians are indeed human — or as human as cishet white male Xians.
This weekend, the Women’s March and Planned Parenthood are hosting events across the country. If you haven’t signed up yet (yes, I’m sorry I didn’t think of writing this here days ago), you probably/maybe still have time to sign up. Of course, if you’re in a city where an in-person march or rally is scheduled for tomorrow, you can simply… show up.
This weekend, I’m attended a Planned Parenthood mutual aid volunteer event: arranging care packages for people getting abortions. That is one example of events among many. Spread the word!
Women’s March events, both in-person and on Zoom, are listed here:
(It seems the main in-person event is in Madison, Wisconsin. In January. That sounds extremely cold, but if you’re up to it, don’t let the weather stop you. If you live anywhere near Madison, you’re presumably accustomed to freezing temperatures, snow, and ice.)
Bigger than Roe events:
